The division of Shanxi universities may be called a "death history" of Shanxi universities.

Taiyuan Engineering, the first brother of colleges and universities in the province, was separated from the engineering college of Shanxi University in 2021 during the adjustment period of the faculties and departments in the 1950s . There are also some majors in the engineering college, such as metallurgical engineering, which were merged into Beijing Iron and Steel. The Institute of Technology has become a "first-class discipline" of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, which is now a 211 university; textile engineering and mining engineering are merged into Northwestern Polytechnical University, and the other is a 985&211.

The law and finance majors flowed to Beijing and merged into Peking University and the National People's Congress respectively; the medical school was also established independently and became today's Shanxi Medical University; the liberal arts and sciences merged, renamed Shanxi Normal University and moved to Linfen.
